So I have a question for you all. How do you gear a 40s hunter? I've gone all-out on agility since I started and now have 216 agility. You've probably noticed that my HP has been decreasing over the weekend from over 2000 to 1800 now. I've been getting nice mail pieces and loots with lots of good agility buffs, but they're lacking in stamina buffs. As it stands right now, my agility is almost double my next buff, and my armor is no longer green-lit in the armory.
The problem is I tend to melee quite often, and my swords skills is now 222/225. I have a feeling that it's gonna be a problem if I don't get more stamina and/or armor.
Should I balance my gear more?

I think you're in good shape, except for the leather items. Find some mail "Of the Monkey" gear to replace those, if you can. (Seems like the AH just doesn't have a lot of usable gear anymore at almost any level.)
You might also look for a replacement chest piece--the ratio of AGI to STR on that piece isn't ideal for a Hunter, but I'd put that lower on the priority list.
For comparison's sake, check out my 42 Hunter at http://www.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Kul+Tiras&n=Peregrine
I'm a few levels below you, but all my gear is mail--and my armor level is +334 compared to yours. Now, Peregrine is my #3 hunter, and I don't spend extravagantly on him, so he's not geared out as well as he could be.
He hunts with a 42 'lock and a 40 Rogue, and as long as we're communicating, we simply don't die, so there's no real imperative for me to upgrade. (That said...I think a trip to the AH is in order.)
But to recap, I think your AGI/STA ratio is fine.
as long as you're not dying, there's not really a problem.
Personally, it looks good to me. Right when I hit 40 I resisted the temptation to upgrade to Mail simply for the armor, which seems you also did smartly.
Otherwise I'll mimic Kestrel and look for a nice chest armor to upgrade, or find a friendly enchanter and boost things up a bit via enchants on other items.
get stamina agility ap and crit rating...at your level you dont need to worry about gear if your trying to get to 70 fast..but if your going slow then go for those stats
p.s = you will get tons of greens in outlands but most of the mail quest items are for shamans so you will have to rely on the greens you pick up and instances...
For my 40s I made the Tough Scorpid gear:

served me well.
Read yer buddy BRK (he linked to here is how I found you). Even if you plan to spec MM endgame, at least go BM to level up. Yer pet should be tankin' so you don't have to :P Then all that +ag just shines!
dont melee is what i would say. Get your pet growl and bite so that they are getting all the aggro while you finish them off with ranged weapons. A hunter's strength is his bow/gun not his axe. If you still want to melee, spec survival.
agility translates to AP, and ranged AP for hunters FTW !
If you go heavy on PvP in more than 1x1, you will want STA. For 1x1, as long as you can get the other guy down faster than he can do the same to you, you're fine!
If that "melee" is from taking threat away from your pet:
1) Get a boar: the initial aggro from charge will keep the mob glued, and if there are two, you can charge one and intimidate the 2nd and BOTH will stay glueded even with Mend Pet kicking in... Of course, this is for tougher mobs as any pet can tank 3 or 4 "normal" mobs without a Mend Pet!
2) Haven't checked your armory, but if you're not BM, make the switch: pet tanks better, has more HP/Armor and in a few levels both will get a 20% speed/DPS boost!
Just replace the Agi + Str and Agi + Spi items with Agi + Sta and you are set :-)
This is what I am about to run into on both of my toons. One has no cash though. Definatly some good comments here to take into consideration when I get there.
